Every day, Angel Flight West’s volunteer pilots fly people to their medical appointments at no cost to the passenger. We fly patients to and from non-emergency/scheduled medical treatment. Passengers must be medically stable, able to walk, fly in a non-pressurized plane, and be able to sit up in a seat with a seatbelt fastened around them. A medical release from the passenger’s physician is required before the trip (passenger qualifications).
Although Angel Flight West responds to a wide variety of needs, flights are generally for passengers who can’t afford airline tickets, or for whom travel by land or by commercial airline would pose a physical hardship. Other viable flight situations include passengers with compromised immune systems or who live in remote areas without access to commercial transportation.
In addition, Angel Flight West has a partnership with Alaska Airlines to provide transportation to and from Alaska via Alaska Airlines. We are proud to be one of Alaska Airlines featured charities for donated miles.
We take in new requests for possible flights through a doctor’s office, a nurse, a social worker or case manager, or the patient. We require at least one week to coordinate the flight once complete paperwork is received. Once a passenger’s request is approved, Angel Flight West’s staff will match the request with a volunteer pilot. Once a pilot has taken the mission they will contact the patient directly, and all other arrangements from that point on are made between the pilot and the patient.
Angel Flight West is not a guaranteed service. All passengers must have a back up plan in place.
Angel Flight West covers the 12 Western states, including Alaska and Hawaii.
